John E. Jarvis, III, Attorney at Law

John E. Jarvis, III is a lifelong Santa Rosa County resident and a product of its school system, having attended and graduated from Gulf Breeze Elementary, Middle and High Schools.

John graduated from Florida State University in 1980 with as Bachelor’s of Science in Risk Management/Insurance. After three years of employment as a Commercial Property Underwriter for Aetna Life and Casualty, John made the decision to go to law school. John went on to obtain his Juris Doctorate at Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama.

John has practiced law in the First Judicial Circuit since 1989, and was employed with the Public Defender’s office for over 15 years. He has personally litigated thousands of cases in both county and circuit courts. As a criminal defense attorney, John has represented clients in more than eighty-five criminal trials, and been sole counsel on more than fifty jury trials to verdict. John has represented clients charged with crimes ranging from homicide to domestic violence, and been counsel in trials with complex litigation involving forensic evidence and DNA.

From 2003 – 2005, John was the sole defense counsel team member for the Escambia County Drug Court program, which has been a model for other programs nationwide. John is a member of the Florida Association of Drug Court Professionals, Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and President-Elect of The Northwest Chapter of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Since joining the firm of Gibson & Jarvis, P.A. as partner in March of 2005, John has handled cases involving personal injury, car accidents, criminal defense matters and family law. John is a Past President of the Northwest Florida Criminal Defense lawyers and a current member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (FACDL).
